About Congo DR
• The Democratic Republic of Congo is located in Central Africa, it is the third largest country by area on the African continent, with a population of over 60 million ( 4th most populous country in Africa)
• It is referred to as DR Congo, DRC or RDC (in French) or sometimes it is called Congo Kinshasa after its capital city.
• The name Congo emanates from the River Congo, which is also known as the River Zaire which has a length of 4,700 km, it is the second largest river in Africa after the River Nile.
• The Democratic Republic of Congo is a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
• It borders the Central African Republic, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Angola, the Republic of the Congo and Tanzania
• The size of Congo, 2,345,408 square kilometres (905,567 sq mi), is slightly greater than the combined areas of Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway.
• The Democratic Republic of Congo experiences the highest prevalence of thunderstorms in the world and contains the second largest rainforest globally after the Amazon.
